Our mission is to teach with compassion, joy and love. We do our best to achieve healing through movement. We strive to maintain the integrity of both the Pilates method and the Meeks method through continued personal practice, ongoing education, and the pursuit of excellence in every moment.

     

PENNY SHURE received her Bachelor’s Degree from Syracuse University. Her love affair with movement began at age four with her first dance class and continues. She is a Pilates Method Alliance certified instructor and received her classical training through Power Pilates, NYC in 2003. She has continued her study with Pilates elder instructors regularly over the years. She began studying with her mentor, Sara Meeks, PT in 2009 and received her certification in the Meeks Method Level 1 in 2010. Her emphasis is on raising awareness as to the exercise, movement and lifestyle modifications necessary in order to combat osteoporosis. She is meticulous in her approach to teaching, fracture prevention and keeping her clients’ safe.

Penny is the Albany, NY support group leader for the National Osteoporosis Foundation. Penny has also formed a Teen NOF support group which meets weekly at the studio and includes a free mat class. This is the ‘backbone’ of the “Dear Mom” Campaign, the primary goal being to teach our youngest population the foundation needed for good posture and bone health awareness. She was part of the NOF’s advocacy group “Strong Voices for Strong Bones on Capitol Hill” to raise awareness for osteoporosis and bone health in congress on October 20, 2009. She is a consumer reviewer in the evaluation of research proposals submitted to the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program sponsored by the Department of Defense. She serves on Eli Lilly and Company’s Mobility Advisory Board.

She has written a CD of songs to teach children movement and alignment exercises at a young age to help encourage bone health that lasts a lifetime. They are currently in production through Indian Ledge Records.
